Egypt Total Solar Eclipse Tour: Cairo, Nile Cruise & Luxor 2027

9 Days
Start From $7995

Witness 6 minutes of totality over Karnak Temple, then a Nile cruise through the temples of Upper Egypt.

Total solar eclipses are rare on their own — this one is rarer still. On August 2, 2027, totality over Luxor lasts more than six minutes, the longest stretch of daytime darkness anywhere on land until 2114, and the region has some of the most reliable clear skies of any eclipse path on record. This itinerary is built to put you at Karnak Temple for that afternoon, while still covering the rest of Egypt's essential sites on either side of it.

The trip opens in Cairo with the Giza Plateau and the Grand Egyptian Museum, then flies south to Aswan for Philae Temple, the Unfinished Obelisk, and an excursion to Abu Simbel before boarding a Nile cruise. The ship sails north through Kom Ombo and Edfu, reaching Luxor with a full day to spare for the West Bank — the Valley of the Kings, the Temple of Hatshepsut, and the Colossi of Memnon — before eclipse day itself, spent at Karnak Temple with ISO-certified eclipse glasses provided. The sun sits close to directly overhead in early August, so much of the viewing is done reclining rather than craning upward. From there it's a flight back to Cairo for a final day at the Citadel and the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization before departure.

A note on this listing: exact departure dates, hotel and cruise vessel assignments, and final pricing for the 2027 eclipse period are still being confirmed with our local partner and will be finalized closer to the date — treat the itinerary below as a working plan rather than a bookable price.

Notes

Tipping (Baksheesh): Customary for drivers, guides, and cruise staff. Small local-currency denominations are useful to have on hand.
Heat: Luxor regularly exceeds 40°C (104°F) in early August. Light, breathable clothing and steady hydration matter more than on a typical Egypt trip.
Travel Documents: Passport valid at least six months beyond travel dates. Check current Egypt visa requirements for your nationality before departure.
Eclipse Safety: Never look directly at the sun without certified eclipse glasses except during the brief minutes of full totality. ISO 12312-2 compliant glasses are provided for the group.
Timing: Totality falls in the early afternoon with the sun nearly overhead, so many viewers find it easiest to watch reclining rather than standing.
