The essentials of the Giza Plateau in half a day
Your Egyptologist guide meets you at your Cairo hotel around 8:00 AM (pickup from Heliopolis or 6th of October carries a small supplement) for the short drive to the Giza Plateau — usually the first stop of the day, before the midday heat and the tour buses arrive.
You'll start at the pyramids built for Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure, walking the plateau to compare the three at close range before continuing on foot to the Great Sphinx, carved during Khafre's reign with a pharaoh's head set on a lion's body. The route also takes in the Valley Temple linked to Khafre's pyramid, once used for the purification and mummification rites performed on the king's body before burial — a stop many half-day itineraries skip.
With the essentials covered in around four hours, your guide returns you to your hotel by early afternoon, leaving the rest of the day free. If you'd rather add the Grand Egyptian Museum or Saqqara to the same morning, Gentoura's Giza Pyramids and Grand Egyptian Museum Day Tour and Giza Pyramids and Saqqara Full-Day Tour cover the same ground at a fuller pace.
